History of the Jännerrallye

Many years ago there were a rally journal called “Auto Revue”, which was something special. Already in the middle of December the journal contains important things like route maps, tips from insiders where you can find the best action zones and much information about the event and much more.
We made a little review about the rally journal between 1982 and 1986.

An extract of the history about the “Jännerrallye”
A total of 22 “Jännerrallye’s” take place in Mühlviertel. 2011 it will be the 28th with the name “Jännerrallye”. Years ago the rally takes place in Allensteigen and in Ratte (two times). The name of the first “Jännerrallye” was Casino Rally in 1969.
1979

- Stig Blomquist
Stig Blomquist (rally world champion in 1984) come as a legend to Mühlviertel. Wilfried Wiedner fought against Franz Wittmann in an absolutely worth seeing duel. However Wiedner fell out because the electric was broken. Nevertheless Per Engseth with co-driver Rudi Stohl have made history because the Norwegian won the rally with his car Lada 1600, which only had 120 PS.
1980

Of course Engseth and Stohl wanted to win the rally again, but Wittmann and Haider replaced him to the third place.
1981

- Shekar Mehta, ein Afrikaner im Schnee: Zuerst die Rutschpartie mit dem Datsun,

- dann die ersten Erlebnisse auf Skiern.
The hero of many safari rallies’ Shekar Mehta made his rally debut on snow covered roads in 1981. He achieved right away the 12th place with a Bamminger Datsun 260-Z. In this year Franz Wittmann (Audi Quattro) wins the rally before Haughland / Skoda and Haider / Patterman (Ascona 400).
1982

Rauno Aaltonen a tragic figur of many long distance rallies led the other foreign drivers. He felt out, because of engine damage (Opel Ascona). Shekar Mehta (Datsun Violet) achieved the 6th place.
1st place Wittmann/Nestinger (Audi Quattro)
2nd place Ficher/Weinzierl (Talbot Lotus)
3rd plce Kalnay/Hinterleitner (Opel Ascona 400)
1983

Freddy Kottulinsky fight against Franz Wittmann, but the Swede fell out, because he drives through a concrete slab. Kottulisky lost the Jännerrallye, but he won a lot of fans. John Haugland (Skoda 130 RS) achieved the 4th place. Ladislav Krecek (9th place), Petter Mattig (3rd place), and the winner …. Franz Wittmann.

Snow and ice
Ernst Harrach drifted on the 3rd place (Citroen Visa). The 2nd place went to Alois Pfeffer (Toyota Corolla).
